During the public‑comment portion of the Transportation Public Advisory Committee meeting, a resident who identified herself as a Richland County taxpayer and Wood Creek Farms resident said she moved to the area 1½ years ago and has seen a “insane increase in traffic” tied to new commercial development, including a Publix. She said she commutes to Blythewood and has observed nearly three accidents in one week because “the roads just aren't safe for the number of people traveling with them each day,” and asked when the county plans to address the infrastructure.
Director Michael Maloney responded that Spears Creek Church Road will move into a right‑of‑way acquisition phase and that the county has plans to widen the corridor. He said sections of Spears Creek Church Road are planned to be widened to five lanes on some segments and to three lanes on others, and that Earth Road is a city‑maintained street not currently in the county program. Maloney also noted the county is starting right‑of‑way appraisals and negotiations and will coordinate with affected property owners.
The comment and reply were presented as informational; TPAC did not take formal action during the meeting.
