Richland County transit reports slight year-over-year ridership gain, month-to-month decline tied to Thanksgiving

Jackie Bowers, speaking for Richland County transit, reported that total passenger boardings for November were 134,162, up from 133,717 the prior November — an increase of 0.33% year‑over‑year — but down from October's 158,783 boardings, a decrease of 15.50% month‑to‑month.
Bowers provided additional breakdowns: USC ridership for November was 31,827 total boardings and the USC game‑day ridership figure cited for September was 8,865. She also referenced the system's monthly financials and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) participation and noted that Miss Andrews from finance was present on the call for questions.
When a committee member asked whether the November decrease was caused by the Thanksgiving holiday, Bowers replied, “Yes. They were, they were closed a couple of days, and then about 3 or 4 days, they were on reduced service.”
Bowers said the month-to-month decline reflected reduced service days and that the agency is monitoring ridership and finances. She closed the report and invited follow-up questions from committee members.
