The Town Council of Schererville on Dec. 30 adopted Ordinance 2013A, an amendment to the town salary ordinance that adjusts several pay and payroll items following recent organizational changes.
Why it matters: The changes formally add a stormwater board line item, clarify how a cell phone stipend will be paid, and combine two court employee positions into a single role. Updating the salary ordinance ensures payroll and record-keeping match the town's organizational structure.
Town Manager Jim Gorman summarized the three changes. He said the ordinance must include a line for the newly added stormwater board even though members "will not get paid for that, but it's still gotta be in there." He said the second change tweaks cell phone stipend language to fit payroll rules, and the third consolidates two court positions into one. The council moved to approve the ordinance and then to adopt it; both votes passed unanimously, recorded as 5-0.
The ordinance update was described as technical and administrative, intended to bring payroll entries into alignment with recent appointments and board additions. No new funding was required and the council did not discuss changes to pay amounts during the meeting.
