Board approves Midland Power permits to place lines underground near 200th Street

Humboldt County supervisors approved two work-in-county permits Nov. 12 for Midland Power to convert overhead electrical lines to underground near 200th Street and to run conduit to the county substation.
County staff described two separate permit applications: one to run conduit north–south beneath a gravel road and another to run roughly 200 feet along the back of the right-of-way on the south side of 200th Street before crossing under the highway to the substation. Staff said Midland Power’s paperwork was in order and that much of the work would occur in the county right-of-way or alongside it.
Board members asked technical questions about the work method. Staff replied that crews expect to bore under the roadway in one location, work in the back of the right-of-way for approximately 200 feet, and then cross under the highway to the substation. Staff indicated little or no residential impact at the immediate sites and that the permits were routine following earlier, nearby crossing approvals.
The board moved and seconded approval of each permit and approved both by voice vote. The board record shows the permits were filed as two separate applications rather than a single consolidated permit.
