Mayor Rex Richardson introduced 14 new and returning public‑service appointments to Long Beach’s non‑charter commissions at the Feb. 18 council meeting. Council approved the slate by voice vote.
Appointments included: Marva Thomas to the Airport Advisory Commission (at‑large), Dr. William Grela (dentist) and Dr. Bridal Barrios (physician) to the Board of Health and Human Services, and Angela (medical entomologist) to the same board. Ashley Jones was appointed to the Citizens Advisory Commission on Disabilities, Michael Bennett to the Climate Resilience and Sustainable City Commission (District 8), Sofia Chim to the Commission for Women and Girls (District 6), Ricky Dockery to the Equity and Human Relations Commission (at‑large), James Almada to the Long Beach Transit Board (Director seat #1), Robert Blair to the Marine Advisory Commission (District 3), Daphne Leek to the Pacific Gateway (Long Beach Workforce Investment Network) vocational rehabilitation seat, and Morgan Wheeler to the Technology Innovation Commission (District 4). Two reappointments were noted: Anthony Taranto to the Housing Authority tenant seat and Eddie Angeles to the Long Beach Transit Board.
Council members thanked the appointees and called for orientation and a group photograph following the vote. No public protests or formal objections were recorded in the transcript.
