Northbrook staff previews four preliminary reviews and Feb. 4 public hearings

Community planning staff told the Plan Commission the village is tracking several projects and expects an active calendar in the coming months. Staff said four items recently had preliminary reviews: a special permit request for a job-training vocational facility at 1200 Shermer Road for Glenbrook Transition Services (District 225), a special permit and building addition for Meadowbrook School at 1600 Walters, a request to subdivide 701 Lee Road, and a special permit request for a transitional services facility at 2965 Walters from an applicant named SunCloud (the applicant previously received approvals for inpatient facilities behind Northbrook Court).

Staff said at least three of those four preliminary-review applicants are moving forward with formal applications. The plan commission will next meet on Feb. 4, when staff said the commission will hold a public hearing on a plan development application for 37100 Dundee Road (the former Our Lady of the Brook site) and hold a public meeting to consider final plan approval for 1657 Shermer (the former Granger site). Staff noted final-plan items proceed only if in substantial conformance with previously approved concept plans.

Staff also said the village redesigned its online development project tracker (a story map) and will update project statuses routinely. Commissioners discussed scheduling a training session with the village attorney for newer commissioners; staff indicated they would try to arrange training in March without delaying active applications.

No formal votes were taken on these preliminary items during the meeting; the staff report served as a preview of upcoming public hearings and applications.
