Union County commissioners honor student Samer Perez as Kaplan Leadership Scholar

The board's remarks said Perez immigrated from Cuba 14 years ago and chose “Union College of Union County, New Jersey” for his studies. Commissioners noted his campus leadership roles: president of the Latin Legacy Club, member of Phi Theta Kappa, participation in the Educational Opportunity Fund program, and work as a tutor at the academic learning center. Perez is expected to graduate this spring and intends to continue his education in computer information systems with career ambitions including business analyst, program manager, or software engineer.
Chairwoman Palmeri Mudad said, “we here at Union County are so proud of your excellence in your education, and we look forward to having you represent Union County.” The board presented Perez with a written resolution; the chair said she would not read the entire text aloud.
The recognition was presented during the agenda-setting session; no formal policy action or vote regarding the scholarship was taken at the meeting.
