The Aberdeen School District 06-1 Board approved the first reading Feb. 24 of revised policy KF and regulation KF‑R, which govern community use of buildings and grounds and the district’s rental rates and procedures.
Mr. Schnell presented the revisions and said the changes principally update wording, add prohibitions (including vaping and controlled substances) and adjust wage rates for setup, coverage and cleaning to reflect recent increases. The revision removes a few now-obsolete rentable categories (for example, the district no longer lists a standalone “computer lab” or video‑conference room) and changes pricing for the Gene Brownell Activity Complex and other spaces.
When asked how the proposed rates compare with the city and other districts, Schnell said the district’s rates are generally in the same ballpark as peer South Dakota districts (Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Watertown) and comparable to city facilities; he said reciprocal arrangements with the city and Northern State University mean the district and those partners typically waive charges when they provide facilities for one another’s events unless damage or extra cleanup is required.
Board members moved and approved the first reading by voice vote; the revision will return for a second reading and final approval at a future meeting.
