Students and tourism committee present draft Cass County visitors guide; commission to schedule work session

Representatives of a Cass County tourism committee and students from a local marketing program presented a draft Cass County visitors guide at the Jan. 22 commission meeting, and commissioners said they will schedule a work session to discuss coordination and costs ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Bing Schoenfeld, introduced in the meeting as executive director of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber Foundation, said the tourism committee began projects a few years ago in preparation for the World Cup and that the committee would like to meet with county officials and committee members to talk about the program and costs. Schoenfeld said the county and area chambers should coordinate on promotion; he told the commission, "we probably would like to do a work session where we could have the members of the committee and probably y'all involved so we can sit down and actually have a, and talk about the the program and and the cost and things like that." He asked staff to coordinate scheduling with county contacts.
Amy Schroeder, described in the transcript as a marketing teacher, said the project began roughly two years ago with a class assignment and was later narrowed to two top students who took primary responsibility for the guide. Schroeder said, "This has been such a fun project to work on." The students, identified as Anna Tews and Bethany Sharp, told commissioners the guide includes each town's history, shopping, dining, attractions and photos, and is intended to appeal to multiple audiences. The students said the guide may compete in DECA contests if work continues and is successful.
During public comment a speaker noted that this is likely the first Cass County visitors guide and thanked the students and committee for the work. Commissioners said they will arrange a work session soon with the tourism committee and county staff to refine the guide, discuss costs and coordinate outreach with nearby chambers and municipalities.
