The Saint Marys City Council voted on several routine items during its Jan. 20 meeting, approving minutes and adopting two resolutions.
Councilmember Joe moved and Councilmember Tony seconded a motion to approve the minutes of the Dec. 16 meeting. The motion carried by voice vote: “All those in favor? Aye. All those opposed? The ayes have it.”
Later the council considered Resolution No. 25‑01, a request from the police department to dispose of inactive, historical records. The manager characterized the action as “the standard annual purge” and said the listed items were inactive and within the department’s rights to dispose. Councilmember Shane moved to approve Resolution No. 25‑01; Councilmember Steven seconded. The motion carried by voice vote.
The council then considered Resolution No. 25‑02, the annual fair housing resolution. A staff speaker summarized that the Fair Housing Act prohibits housing discrimination and that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development requires the adoption of fair housing rules to receive federal grant funding such as CDBG and HOME. The speaker also said that local governments with more than 15 employees must designate a fair housing officer and that the appointing officer is typically within the speaker’s department; the speaker said he would be the appointed officer. Councilmember Shane moved to approve Resolution No. 25‑02; Councilmember Steven seconded. The motion carried by voice vote.
The meeting also included a certificate of recognition for Scott Bennett for his two years of service on the airport authority; the certificate was recognized although Bennett was not present.
The meeting adjourned on a motion by Councilmember Steven, seconded by Councilmember Joe; the motion carried by voice vote.
