Horvath said the county established renter protections at a recent board meeting to shield people who take in displaced neighbors or pets from eviction. "If you are a renter taking people or pets in, who are displaced from these fires, you will not be subject to eviction for doing so," she said.
The county also adjusted short‑term rental ordinances to allow additional housing options for people impacted by the fire and for workers helping rebuild, though Horvath said the change is restricted to those two groups. She said the board directed the county to secure additional state and federal resources and co‑authored a motion on accountability that will hire a third‑party administrator to conduct an after‑action assessment.
Horvath described the county's recovery organization: nine specialized task forces on debris management, watershed recovery, rebuilding, schools, health and social services, cultural and natural resources, and long‑term recovery. She said the county is coordinating debris management, road clearing and flood control, and is establishing points of distribution for PPE, sandbags and other mitigation for anticipated rain.
Local outreach and next steps: Horvath encouraged residents to use the Westside Pavilion disaster recovery center (open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.), attend an upcoming debris removal town hall Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m., and consult the county repopulation map at recovery.lacounty.gov.
