Sheriff's Department, volunteers deliver 800 holiday boxes to 400 Central County families

Volunteers working with the sheriff's department delivered 800 Thanksgiving boxes to 400 families in the Central County area, organizers said.

Organizers said the effort aims to provide food and essentials to families during a time of need. Volunteer speakers described emotional exchanges during deliveries and said participating law enforcement officers were affected by the outreach as well.

Volunteer (Speaker 1) said, "Each family is getting 2 boxes, so we're delivering 800 boxes to 400 families in the Central County area." Volunteer (Speaker 2) described a personal motivation for joining the effort: "One of the biggest things why I volunteered was I was one of the families growing up back home that received a box for Thanksgiving, at least."

"This is probably my favorite part of the year. We get hugs. We get tears. We get laughter. I mean, it's truly fantastic to see the emotion," Volunteer (Speaker 2) added. Volunteer (Speaker 1) also said the outreach affects law enforcement: "I think it has just as much effect on us in law enforcement as it does to the community."

A recipient identified as Resident (Speaker 3) expressed gratitude and credited the sheriff's department for the delivery. "I'm so happy, and I'm thankful. I thank the sheriff's department for delivering me this box because I'd be stuck. It's life-saving," the resident said.

Organizers did not specify funding sources, the schedule for future distributions, or which specific sheriff's office branch managed logistics. The remarks occurred as part of brief public remarks recorded in the meeting transcript; no formal motions or votes about the distribution were recorded.

The effort will reach an estimated 400 households in the Central County area, with two boxes allocated per household, organizers said.
