Tourism council OKs three sponsorships and a PR contract increase; rescinds earlier minutes approval

The Nassau County Amelia Island Tourist Development Council voted Feb. 12 to amend its public-relations contract and to approve three sponsorships using tourist development tax revenue, and later rescinded an earlier motion to approve meeting minutes after staff confirmed no minutes had been prepared.
The actions included a modification to the council’s PR contract with Hayward Creative Inc., a $25,000 sponsorship for the A.L. Lewis Museum at American Beach, and additional funding for the Hagerty Amelia event. Council members approved each item by voice vote after motions and seconds were entered.
Council members heard from Paul Behrens, who described the Hayward contract change as a "housekeeping process." Behrens said Hayward had submitted a revised scope that added mailers, media and in-person public-relations work, producing a $15,300 increase from $148,000 to $163,300 for the current fiscal year. Hartman moved to approve the Hayward amendment and Halverstadt seconded; the motion carried by voice vote.
The council approved a $25,000 sponsorship request from the A.L. Lewis Historical Society to support a new website, brochures and materials tied to the museum’s 90th-anniversary exhibition at American Beach. Miss Davis moved and Miss West seconded the resolution; members voted yes.
Members also authorized additional funding for Hagerty Group LLC’s Amelia event. Behrens said Hagerty proposed several pre-event additions intended to drive earlier overnight stays; the council approved increasing support from previously committed amounts (the board referenced an earlier $55,000 commitment) up to a total of $100,000. Miss Halverstadt moved and Mister Hartman seconded that resolution; the motion carried.
Earlier in the meeting the council had voted to approve minutes from a prior meeting. County staff later informed the council that no minutes had been prepared; Miss Summers moved to rescind the earlier approval and Miss Davis seconded. The council voted to rescind the minutes approval so the record would reflect the absence of formal minutes.
Council members did not record roll-call tallies identifying each member’s vote in the public record during these voice votes; outcomes were announced as carried for each motion.
The council also heard fiscal and marketing updates and a separate presentation on Sunshine Law and public-records obligations (see separate article). The newly approved sponsorships and contract amendment will be forwarded to the Nassau County Board of County Commissioners as the council’s recommendation.
