Urbandale board president resigns; Margaret Young elected vice president

Rachel Kent assumed the office of board president of the Urbandale Community School District after Jason Minkie submitted his resignation from the presidency effective Dec. 2, citing increased work demands. Per board policy 02/20, Kent — who was serving as vice president at the time — automatically assumed the presidency.
The board administered the oath of office to Rachel Kent. A district official administering the oath asked, “Do you solemnly swear that you will support the Constitution of The United States and the Constitution of the state of Iowa and that you will faithfully and impartially to the best of your ability discharge the duties of the office of board president in the Urbandale Community School District as now and hereafter required by law?” Kent responded, “I do.”
The automatic elevation of Kent left a vacancy in the vice presidency. The board held nominations and a roll-call vote. A board member moved to nominate Catherine Hauser; another member nominated Margaret Young. During the roll-call vote members cast their votes aloud, and Margaret Young was elected vice president. The board then administered the vice-presidential oath; Young answered “Yes, I do.”
The board confirmed the change with an official roll-call that produced unanimous assent for the other related motions during the meeting.
The personnel changes took place during the open portion of the meeting and preceded routine consent items and other business.
