Manager updates auditors' work, ambulance delay and emergency equipment inventory

County Manager Scott Whittaker reported on Sept. 2 that auditors are wrapping up test work on the county—s 2024 audit and staff are actively preparing for the 2025 audit. Whittaker said the final trial balance had been provided to auditors and that auditors were drafting financial statements; a firm completion date for the 2024 audit was not yet available.
On the ambulance ordered by the county, Whittaker said the HVAC compressor required custom mounting brackets that were being sourced from Canada; the carrier allegedly misplaced the originally ordered brackets and expedited replacements have been sent. "We are going to eventually get this ambulance," Whittaker said.
Whittaker also reported emergency-management staff had inventoried equipment including generators, chainsaws, a light tower and trailers. Work completed or underway included servicing the light tower, registering trailers with DMV and titling previously untitled trailers. The manager said the inventory and service work was intended both to prepare for future events and to establish regular maintenance schedules.
Whittaker said an amendment to a Danville-Caswell water and sewer services agreement had been under negotiation; Danville was considering changes and the matter was on Danville—s agenda the same evening, so the county anticipated an update at the Sept. 16 meeting after Danville—s meeting concluded.
Whittaker introduced Crystal Stauffer as the county—s new human-resources director. Stauffer said she was pleased to join the county and thanked commissioners for the opportunity; the manager praised her credentials and said she had started work energetically.
What—s next: staff will continue to work with auditors on outstanding items; the county will track the ambulance delivery and advise the board when the vehicle is operational; and the Danville amendment will return to the board when Danville acts on its parallel agenda.
