The City of Thief River Falls announced a partnership with Community Voice, a locally made community app based in Fertile, Minn., that centralizes events, business listings, meeting agendas and push/text notifications for residents and visitors.
Megan Peterson, founder and CEO of Community Voice, demonstrated the app for the council and described features including a community calendar, business and organization directories, the ability for entities to claim listings and the option for the city to post meeting minutes and agendas. Peterson said the app protects user data and does not sell it, and that the city will be able to embed a community calendar on the municipal website and send notifications to subscribers.
Peterson encouraged residents, businesses, clubs and organizations to download the free app, claim listings and consider low-cost redirectable in-app advertising. She said communities can set event visibility by radius and that some regional communities and colleges already appear in the platform.
Council members asked about what events the city can post; Peterson said each community chooses what content to allow and that the city administrator will decide whether to include citywide rummage sales and similar community events. No formal council vote was recorded at the time; council members welcomed the partnership and said they would promote the app and that the city would soon link it from the municipal website.
Peterson offered QR codes and staff contact information to help businesses claim listings and to assist residents who cannot download the app by adding phone numbers to a subscriber text list.
