Alva Community Coffee: reunions, free swims, art walk, downtown music and chamber openings announced

At Alva’s Community Coffee meeting, organizers highlighted a slate of community events and civic opportunities, including reunion activities this weekend, free swims for children funded by local donors, a first‑Friday art walk on Aug. 1, plans to add background music speakers on the downtown square, and two openings on the chamber’s working board.

Speakers described nightlife and reunion programming that ran during the prior evening and additional reunion events through the weekend, including a parade and “crazy day” sales. The meeting record said donors have funded free swims for children for much of the summer and that a free swim for graduates is scheduled at Outstate Bank on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Organizers announced a first‑Friday art walk planned for Aug. 1, with food donated by Alstyne Bank and an ice cream offering that evening. They also described a downtown music project that would place speakers on the town square to provide background music for shoppers; funding for the downtown music project was described as “complete.” Speakers asked for donations if community members want to support ongoing operations.

The chamber’s representative said the chamber has a “really incredible board” supporting events and encouraged volunteers. The representative said two working‑board positions are opening and that the chamber will accept applications; the meeting record said several applicants have already expressed interest and that the board will vote on appointments.
