Georgetown City Council authorizes right-of-way acquisitions, property purchase and objects to condemnation award

After executive session the council unanimously authorized acquisition of right-of-way for the RM2243/Leander Road expansion, approved purchase of a Williamson County parcel, and authorized city attorneys to object to a condemnation award in a map-access road project.
After an executive session, the Georgetown City Council moved unanimously to authorize three separate legal actions affecting city land and roadway projects.
The council approved a motion to authorize the city to acquire necessary right-of-way and fee simple interests from properties along RM 2243 from Southwest Bypass to Norwood Drive in connection with the Leander Road (RM 2243) Roadway Expansion Project. The motion also authorized the city manager to negotiate final terms and execute documents related to the acquisitions. “I move to authorize the city of Georgetown to acquire the necessary right of way and fee simple from properties along RM 2243,” said Miss Pitts during the motion reading.
Council members also voted to approve the purchase of a parcel in Williamson County identified as 1000 C R 409, Taylor, Texas 76574, further identified by Williamson County Appraisal District parcel IDs R020027 and R525392, and authorized the city manager to negotiate final terms and execute necessary documents for that purchase.
Separately, the council authorized the city to file an objection to a condemnation award handed down by special commissioners in Cause No. 25-0485-CC2 in County Court at Law No. 2 concerning the city’s acquisition of right-of-way across a portion of property owned by James Briggs and Jana Briggs (WCAD parcel R099750) for the SH 29 West Roadway expansion. The motion directed the city attorney or the attorney’s designee to prepare and file documents to advance the objection and to proceed to trial as necessary. That motion was read into the record by Miss Pitts.
All three motions were seconded and carried unanimously. The council did not receive public comment on these items during the meeting and took the actions directly following executive session.
The measures will allow the city to complete negotiations and, if necessary, litigate to secure property needed for multiple roadway expansion projects referenced in the executive-session motions.
