Monrovia will receive $1,000,000 from Metro to fund pedestrian and bicycle improvements, City Manager Dylan Feik told the City Council during staff reports.
Feik said the award will fund pedestrian improvements — including bike facilities along Colorado Boulevard and other corridors — intended to increase connectivity and safety across the city. “He shared that the goal is to create more pedestrian connectivity within Monrovia, so we're very excited to do that,” Feik said during his report, noting that the city’s application was approved by Metro. Staff said project scope will be coordinated with a project design consultant and that additional details and schedules will be shared with council and the public.
The grant arrives as council and public speakers discussed bicycle and pedestrian safety earlier in the meeting; public commenters urged sustained funding and implementation beyond planning documents. Staff said the project will be coordinated with ongoing plans including the Bicycle Master Plan and other active-transportation efforts.
Ending Staff said they will return to council with more detail on how the $1,000,000 will be allocated and urged residents to expect outreach and design updates in coming months.
