The Linn County Board of Commissioners voted June 23 to contract with World Premier Building Services to perform repairs covered by the county's insurance claim, approving a payment to the contractor in the amount of $29,925.73 for work on the courthouse (including bell tower), the annex and the 4‑H building.
Public works staff reviewed three roofing bids and explained one contractor proposed to handle repairs across several county buildings but would require the county's $10,000 deductible up front. Jesse Walton, public works director, said the bid that covered all buildings included that deductible and that the contractor would work with the insurance adjuster to pursue covered costs.
Commission discussion focused on which structures to include in the immediate insurance claim. Commissioners removed the old county attorney building from the scope because the county intends to demolish it; they also deferred decision on the gazebo and asked the contractor to research whether additional recoverable damage could be documented for that structure. Commissioners directed staff to proceed with repairs for the 4‑H building, the annex, the courthouse and the bell tower using the insurance proceeds and the approved contractor.
A motion to award the work to Dave Sutter of World Premier Building Services for $29,925.73, excluding the gazebo and old county attorney building, passed by voice vote.
Staff said the county had received an initial insurance check and that additional recoverable depreciation may be obtainable if repairs are documented and approved by the insurer. County staff will contract with the vendor, issue the payment as authorized and instruct the vendor to work with the insurer on any additional reimbursement related to repaired items.
