Miss Walker, staff member, briefed the committee that the board will prioritize website content revisions under strategic objective 3.5, focusing on plain-language writing, broader language access and improved user experience.
Walker cited U.S. Census data reported to the committee that about 45% of Californians speak a language other than English at home and almost 20% have limited English proficiency. She said Department of Consumer Affairs' Office of Public Affairs (OPA) is leading an initiative to standardize look and feel across DCA websites and that BCE staff have completed training on California's plain-language standard to make content more comprehensible to the public, applicants and licensees.
Walker said public affairs will take the lead on design and template decisions while BCE staff will concentrate on drafting updated content and publications — including modernizing the board's consumer guide to chiropractic care and creating a more robust licensee resource guide linking to other state agency resources. She noted that the board meets current web accessibility standards overseen by the department's Office of Information Services but that some branding items (for example, the board logo color contrast) may be revisited as part of the refresh.
Committee members asked how the committee would be asked to provide input; Walker said the committee would review draft content prior to posting. No public comment was recorded on this agenda item.
