Committee discusses outreach plan to increase diversity in chiropractic profession

Tammy Pitto, staff member, summarized the board's amended strategic objective 3.3 to "create diverse outreach plans to increase awareness about the profession and the board's role to build relationships with stakeholders and diversify the profession." She said a prior outreach plan laid out target audiences — consumers, patients, licensees, applicants, students, colleges, CE providers and professional associations — but staff had not yet implemented many of those items and requested committee guidance.
Committee members suggested targeted engagement with chiropractic colleges and student leadership groups, offering board-member presentations to students, and establishing recurring "office hour" style listening sessions for students near graduation. One member said a recent in-person student presentation in Southern California generated interest and recommended repeating that model. Attendees discussed building an organized contact list of college administrators and student leaders to support outreach and noted the Department of Consumer Affairs' Office of Public Affairs (OPA) can help place the board at career fairs and public information events.
Staff agreed to assemble a contact list for chiropractic colleges and to coordinate with DCA public affairs on outreach opportunities. There was no public comment on the item during the meeting.
