The United Nations’ special envoy for Yemen met senior Yemeni and Saudi officials in Riyadh on Tuesday to discuss developments affecting the Yemeni peace process and to press for de‑escalation.
The UN briefing said Hans Grundberg, the Secretary‑General’s Special Envoy for Yemen, met Yemen’s Prime Minister Ahmed bin Mubarak and Foreign Minister Ahmad Awad bin Mubarak (as reported in the briefing) and senior Saudi counterparts to discuss regional developments and their impact on the peace process. Grundberg also met ambassadors of the Security Council’s permanent members to Yemen and underscored that unity in the Council is “paramount to achieving a way forward for a peaceful and comprehensive resolution to the conflict.”
Dujarric said Grundberg will brief the Security Council via videolink on his Riyadh meetings and will provide more details on his ongoing efforts.
