UN’s Tom Fletcher visits Kharkiv region to support transport for people near front lines

UN under‑secretary‑general for humanitarian affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher visited the Kharkiv region on Tuesday to review humanitarian transport and assistance for people living near active front lines.
Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesperson for the Secretary‑General, said Fletcher traveled to the village of Savchenko (approximately 30 kilometers from the front lines) and to Kupiansk on the front lines. Dujarric said the UN is working with local partners to provide transport for people with limited mobility so they can access basic services.
He said the transport assistance is partly funded through the Ukrainian Humanitarian Fund, which is managed by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, and that Fletcher will continue to Kyiv where he will join Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, to launch the 2025 humanitarian and refugee response plans in coordination with the government of Ukraine.
“Mister Fletcher underscored our sustained commitment to stay and deliver for people as the war rages on around them,” Dujarric said, reporting on Fletcher’s remarks at a press conference with the Kharkiv governor and UN colleagues.
