Shawnee County commissioners elect new chair, approve meeting rules and administrative resolutions

Kevin Hook, who presided at the start of the meeting, opened the session and led introductions before the board moved into elections and procedural items. Commissioner Cook moved to nominate Aaron Mayes as chair; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Bill Rippon and passed, 3-0. The board then elected Bill Rippon as vice chair; that motion also passed, 3-0.
The board approved a list of commissioner appointments to boards, committees and councils presented on the agenda after a motion by Commissioner Cook and a second by Commissioner Rippon; the motion passed, 3-0. The commissioners voted to adopt Resolution No. 2025-2, which establishes the days and hours the courthouse and administrative buildings will be open and sets the dates and procedures for commission meetings. Commissioner Aaron Mayes moved the resolution with Commissioner Rippon seconding; it passed, 3-0. The board also adopted Resolution No. 2025-3, designating the official county newspaper; that motion was made by Commissioner Cook, seconded by Commissioner Rippon, and passed 3-0.
The board approved correction orders following a motion by Commissioner Aaron Mayes, seconded by Commissioner Cook; that motion passed 3-0.
The meeting record shows one procedural suspension: the board approved suspending the usual public-comment time limit during a presentation by a Gage Park Improvement Authority representative; the motion to suspend the rules was made by Commissioner Aaron Mayes, seconded by Commissioner Rippon, and passed 3-0.
