Goose Creek CISD accepts GC2035 long-range facilities plan after heated public comment over Lamar Elementary

The Goose Creek CISD Board of Trustees on Tuesday accepted the GC2035 long-range facilities plan — a 10-year facilities and priorities blueprint that recommends repurposing one south-side elementary campus, including Lamar Elementary, and ranks campus repair and replacement projects across the district.

The plan was developed by GC2035, a citizen committee facilitated by Transcend4 and VOK Architects that reviewed demographic data, facility condition assessments and alternatives. Committee leaders told the board the recommendation to repurpose an elementary campus resulted from repeated discussions about underutilized capacity, aging infrastructure and the need to prioritize repairs districtwide.

The measure before the board was to accept the committee’s report and work; the board did not approve construction or immediate capital expenditures as part of that vote. Administration said separately that any specific actionable items (for example, bringing a bond or initiating a construction contract) would be presented to the board later as distinct agenda items.
