Chester County School Board swears in new members and elects chair, vice chair

The Chester County School Board of Trustees swore in newly seated members and elected its 2025 leadership during the board’s January meeting. Several trustees took the oath of office, and the board then voted by show of hands to select a chair and vice chair.
The board administered oaths to Tara Thomas and Nikia Houston White, who each repeated the oath affirming they are duly qualified under the state constitution and will “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of this state and of the United States.” Brent Ford also took the oath later in the meeting.
After the swearing-in, the board opened nominations for chair. A board member nominated Ms. Funderburk for chair; another nomination was made for Maggie James. Following a raised‑hand vote, the board declared Ms. Funderburk elected chair by majority. Nominations for vice chair followed; a nomination for Ms. Ford was made and accepted, and the board confirmed Ms. Ford as vice chair by raised hands.
The swearing-in and leadership elections were conducted during the public meeting; no roll-call tallies with counts were recorded in the transcript beyond the chair vote being decided by show of hands and the vice chair vote being affirmed.
