The Wylie Library will lead on-site education activities when the touring Wall That Heals replica visits the city, staff told the Wylie Library Advisory Board.
Staff said the exhibit, a traveling replica of the Vietnam Memorial, will be set up in the city's east meadow and requires a substantial volunteer effort. "They come in on Wednesday 29th and that's setup day... It opens officially on Thursday 30th and then it closes on Sunday... at 2 o'clock sharp," a library staff member said, noting the exhibit operates on a strict schedule. The presenter said the event is planned for the fall and volunteers will help guide visitors, assist with mobility needs and staff the education center that converts from the exhibit's transport truck.
The library's conference room will serve as the volunteer check-in area and the Friends of the Library have offered assistance with staffing the education center. Staff warned that some logistics remain unsettled and said more planning meetings will follow. A volunteer form link will be posted by the city to register interest and help organizers coordinate roles.
Board members were told the exhibit is expected to be citywide in scope and will include a parade-style arrival; staff said details such as volunteer schedules and specific volunteer duties will be determined in further planning meetings.
