Tamarac imposes 180-day moratorium on new funeral-home permits while rules are reviewed

The Tamarac City Commission voted unanimously on Feb. 26 to impose a 180-day moratorium on applications, approvals and permits for any new funeral-home use in the city while staff studies zoning and regulatory changes.
City Attorney read the resolution authorizing the moratorium, noting the authority cited in the city code. The measure directs staff to review and recommend changes to the land-development rules that govern where funeral homes may be located. The resolution cites Chapter 10, Section 10-5.4 of the city code as the procedural authority for the temporary pause.
There were no public speakers on the moratorium. The motion to approve was made by Commissioner Marlon Bolton and seconded by Commissioner Wright, and the roll call vote was 5–0 in favor.
City staff will undertake a review of current regulations and return to the commission with proposed amendments or recommendations within the 180-day period. Until the moratorium expires or the commission acts otherwise, no new certificates, permits or business tax receipts for funeral-home uses will be issued except as specifically exempted in the resolution.
