San Leandro Opens Winter Shelter at First United Methodist Church; Services Tuesdays Through April 30

City Manager's Office staff announced at the Jan. 21 City Council meeting that San Leandro’s winter shelter opened the prior week at First United Methodist Church, 1600 Bancroft Avenue.
The shelter will operate every Tuesday through April 30, 2025, and additionally on nights when forecasts call for temperatures at or below 42 degrees Fahrenheit or when the chance of rain is 50% or greater. Hours of operation are 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following day. The program serves people age 18 and older and provides a warm dinner, overnight shelter and breakfast.
City staff directed families seeking winter shelter resources to call 211; the Human Services Department webpage includes additional information, the city manager said.
No council action was required; the announcement was provided as a city services update during the council meeting.
