Canfield board re-elects officers, adopts organizational resolutions and personnel items; policies move to adoption

The Canfield Local School District Board of Education completed officer elections, adopted organizational resolutions and approved personnel and policy items at its Jan. 8 reorganizational and regular meeting.
The Canfield Local School District Board of Education held its annual reorganizational and regular meeting on Jan. 8 and completed officer elections, organizational housekeeping, personnel actions and policy approvals.
During the reorganizational portion, the board accepted nominations and elected officers for one-year terms. The board then moved into regular business and, on the superintendent’s recommendation, voted to adopt a package of organizational resolutions that authorize the superintendent to carry out board policies; set the regular meeting schedule (second Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Canfield High School Auditorium); set the Board of Education Service Fund at $5,000; designate the Vindicator as the district’s official newspaper; waive reading of the record of proceedings; apply Robert’s Rules of Order in the absence of board policy; and authorize the treasurer to pay bills within adopted appropriations. A motion to approve the resolutions as presented (items 1 through 7) was moved and seconded and passed by roll call with all five board members voting yes.
The board also appointed liaison and committee assignments for 2025, keeping previous assignments in place while newer members served their first year. The board approved minutes for regular and special meetings, accepted the treasurer’s cash summary and payment registers as presented, and then approved personnel actions that included the hiring of a Hilltop intervention tutor, a CHS head cook, classified substitutes and extracurricular staff, as well as one resignation and the hiring of a licensed daily substitute.
On a separate motion, the board adopted Resolution 55-2025, joining the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) Legal Assistance Fund, and took a second reading of district policy updates found in the meeting packet (exhibit 8). Each of those actions was adopted on roll-call votes with all five members voting yes.
The board also accepted a list of donations for the month—totaling $3,409.96 before an addendum—and later approved an addendum to accept a $25,000 donation from Turning Point Residential to the robotics program (see separate article). The donations acceptance motion passed unanimously.
No motions failed. The board conducted its business by recorded roll-call votes; the district will proceed with committee assignments, personnel onboarding and policy implementation as recorded in the meeting minutes.
