Building Committee elects co-chairs, approves minutes and advances four CIP items

At its Dec. 11 meeting the North Kingstown Building Committee made three formal approvals and advanced a package of capital-improvement items the project team wants to ready for summer 2025.

The committee approved a nomination of Chris Murphy, the district's director of school facilities and school safety, to serve as the committee's district administrative co-chair. Superintendent Lieutenant Duda nominated Murphy; the committee approved the nomination by voice vote.

The committee then voted to have school committee members Rob Case and Megan Riley share the school-committee co-chair role. The committee opened discussion after multiple members indicated support for a dual school-member arrangement; the motion to nominate both Case and Riley as co-chairs passed by voice vote with no recorded nays.

The committee approved the minutes of the Nov. 6, 2024 meeting. The record shows two committee members abstained on that vote; no roll-call tally was recorded in the transcript.

On capital projects, the committee voted to advance four CIP items for further planning so the district can begin design and bidding steps in advance of summer 2025 work. The four items identified on the current CIP and advanced for consideration with the School Building Authority were: ADA (accessibility) enhancements, secure vestibules at school entrances, installation of bottle-filling water stations, and beginning the high-school roofing study/structural review that precedes a multi-year roof replacement. The motion to advance those items passed with an affirmative voice vote and no recorded opposition.
