The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors voted to add the day before Christmas (Dec. 24, 2025) as an eligible paid holiday for full‑time Secondary Road Department employees.
The change was proposed by Secondary Road officials and presented during the board meeting as a resolution (No. 0114251). Doug, the county’s secondary roads foreman, told the board the department’s collective bargaining agreement already lists 10 holidays and that department leaders and the courthouse had asked the board to grant the day before Christmas to road staff as well. “I was just asking that the secondary road department be treated the same and be granted the day before Christmas, December 24, 2025, be added to the eligible paid holidays for regular full time Kossuth County Secondary Road employees for the calendar year 2025,” Doug said.
Board members asked for clarification about how the holiday had been handled in prior years and whether any floating holidays already covered similar dates. Supervisors also noted operational reasons for keeping crews available for snow events and that last year the county took steps to clarify how staff time should be handled where weather required road crews to work.
A motion to adopt Resolution 0114251 carried on a roll-call vote. The board recorded its votes during the meeting; the clerk read the roll and the chair announced the motion passed.
The resolution as read by staff directs that Dec. 24, 2025, be added to the county’s approved holiday list for eligible full‑time Secondary Road employees. The county will implement the change for the 2025 calendar year as stated in the resolution.
The board did not identify any budgetary offset at the meeting; implementation details such as payroll coding and how floating holidays will be handled remained a departmental matter.
The resolution was approved by the board; county staff will publish the updated holiday list and apply the change in the county’s payroll system for the stated calendar year.
