Virginia Gas and Oil Board approves remote attendance resolution and appoints interim chair

At the start of its Feb. 18 meeting, the Virginia Gas and Oil Board approved a remote‑attendance resolution allowing a board member to attend the meeting remotely because their principal residence was more than 60 miles from the meeting location. The motion passed on a voice call and roll call was taken for subsequent votes.

Later in the meeting the board nominated and elected an interim chair by roll call vote. Board members said this interim appointment will remain in effect until the governor issues a final appointment; board members indicated gubernatorial action typically takes up to about 60 days but timing can vary.

During the appointment discussion, Bill Harrison and other board members noted the position is voluntary and that the interim chair will serve until the governor’s office fills the vacancy. The board recorded roll‑call “yes” votes for the interim chair nomination.

The board also set future meeting dates (next meeting: March 18) and adjourned after approving minutes and other routine business.
