The Redondo Beach Youth Commission moved to advance outreach and programming for local teens, including launching an online teen survey, continuing interior renovations at the planned teen center, and referring a neighborhood association contact about a makers fair to the commission's event subcommittee.
The staff liaison told commissioners, "On your on the, the desk in front of you is a flyer for the survey with a QR code link." Staff said the survey has been uploaded online, an active link will be distributed to commissioners, and outreach will include a department Instagram account (identified in the meeting as "r b parks and rec") and student email distribution through the high school principal.
The commission's teen survey subcommittee has been finalizing language for the survey; staff said they expect to have some initial data to share by the next commission meeting. "We will be sending you guys all the link for it," the staff liaison said, and asked commissioners to watch their email for kickoff meeting scheduling.
On the teen center, staff reported that interior renovations are continuing and some furnishings have been purchased. "Hopefully, very soon, we can start meeting with the subcommittee to start figuring out what type of amenities we wanna start purchasing," the staff liaison said.
A member of the North Redondo Beach Business Association (NRBBA) offered to connect commissioners with organizers interested in a makers fair aimed at student entrepreneurs. That speaker said the NRBBA's Robin Garfield has sponsored Maker's Fairs at local schools and suggested hosting a family-oriented neighborhood event on Artesia Boulevard. Commissioners agreed to refer the NRBBA contact email to the event subcommittee.
Discussion only: commissioners and staff discussed scheduling kickoff meetings for subcommittees, outreach options for the survey, and next steps for teen center outfitting. Actions taken were administrative and advisory; no new ordinances or budget approvals were made at the meeting.
Staff outlined implementation steps: distribute the survey link and flyer, run social media outreach via the Parks & Recreation account, coordinate with the high school for email distribution, schedule subcommittee kickoff meetings, and continue teen center procurement and renovation work.
