A. Iannacon, the county’s public information officer, presented a joint proclamation previously signed with the two cities. Iannacon said the only substantive changes from the prior year’s proclamation were the updated City of Pocatello logo and a change in the official name of the national observance.
The proclamation text read into the record emphasizes the community’s role in preventing child abuse and neglect, cites potential long-term harms from childhood abuse (including increased risks of criminal behavior, substance abuse and certain health conditions), and calls for partnerships among families, social-service agencies, schools, faith groups, law enforcement and the business community to support children and families.
A commissioner moved to sign the proclamation; the motion carried on a voice vote. Iannacon provided the commissioners with a copy for county records and said the county would route the signed document to the cities for their signatures.
