Kansas behavioral health board advances multiple regulatory changes, discusses budget and IT overhaul

The Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board (BSRB) used its hybrid meeting to review operations, budget figures, and several proposed regulatory changes affecting multiple license types, and the board reached consensus on several items that will be filed for rulemaking.

Executive Director David Vai reported operational and outreach items, including the board’s YouTube channel (187 meetings uploaded and more than 10,500 cumulative views) and progress on a planned licensing-system migration to the Appello platform. Vai summarized agency finances and recent fee‑fund balances, saying the BSRB fee fund balance has fluctuated and is currently near $1.9 million. He also described a continuing-education tracking partnership with CE Broker that the agency has rolled out for several professions and said staff are launching a licensee workforce survey to inform advisory committees.

On rulemaking, board members agreed by consensus to advance a consolidated set of continuing-education regulation updates to public comment.
