The Cambridge Planning Board elected Mary Flynn chair and Tom Sanovich vice chair during its Jan. 7, 2025 meeting. The chair’s term is one year under the Planning Board’s rules.
Tom Sanovich opened the meeting as acting chair and, during the agenda, nominated Mary Flynn for chair. Board members closed nominations and held a roll-call vote. The roll call on the chair’s election recorded votes as follows: Theodore (Ted) Cohen — yes; Mary Leidecker — yes; Diego Macias — yes; Ashley Tan — yes; Tom Sanovich — yes. The motion carried with all five members present voting in favor.
The board then nominated and elected a vice chair. Theodore (Ted) Cohen nominated Tom Sanovich for vice chair; Mary Leidecker seconded. After closing nominations the board held a roll-call vote: Theodore (Ted) Cohen — yes; Mary Leidecker — yes; Diego Macias — yes; Ashley Tan — yes; Tom Sanovich — yes. The motion carried unanimously.
Mary Flynn was not present at the start of the meeting; board members said they would extend congratulations when she returns. The board also heard a brief Community Development Department update earlier in the meeting, which noted recently adopted zoning amendments related to dormers and flexible parking corridors, and that the City Council continued consideration of a multifamily zoning proposal with upcoming Ordinance Committee hearings scheduled for Jan. 8 and Jan. 16, 2025.
Procedurally, the board used nomination, a vote to close nominations, and roll-call votes for each office. The election concludes the board’s formal business for the evening.
