North Kingstown — The North Kingstown School Committee re-elected Dr. Erin Earl as chair and named Rob Case vice chair at its organizational meeting on Dec. 2, 2024, actions approved by voice vote as the panel set membership for standing and temporary advisory committees ahead of the coming budget season.
The organizational session included a brief public comment urging continuity in committee leadership. Anne Gertman of 91 Beach Road congratulated returning and newly elected members and said, “Therefore, I would recommend keeping the existing leadership in place.”
The re-election followed nominations from committee members. Committee members voted “aye” on the nominations during voice roll calls; individual tallies were not recorded in the meeting minutes. After the chair vote, the incoming chair welcomed new members and said she looked forward to working together on priorities for students.
Committee business that followed was procedural: members nominated and approved representatives and liaisons to a series of standing advisory groups and negotiation teams. Appointments approved included representatives to the building advisory committee, health and wellness committee, budget and finance advisory committee, policy committee, DEI and redistricting/transportation advisory committees, a temporary advisory group on district discipline and practices (with a target final report by February), and negotiation teams for bus contractors and ESP (education support personnel). Jules and Jody were confirmed to continue serving as interim school committee clerks until a posted position is filled.
Members were given a calendar of upcoming meetings: a joint town/school budget meeting set for Dec. 16 at Town Hall and a regular school committee meeting on Dec. 17, plus negotiation-session dates (ESP negotiation meetings on Jan. 6, Jan. 23, Jan. 27 and contingency dates Feb. 10 and Mar. 3, typically 2–4 p.m. at the district office).
Several nominations were presented and approved with little discussion. The temporary advisory group on district discipline and practices was described as co-chaired by a school committee member and a staff member and intended to deliver recommendations by February; chairs may request an extension if needed.
The meeting closed after the committee reviewed advisory-calendar posting requirements under the Rhode Island open-meeting posting rules and confirmed that advisory committees must post agendas at least 48 hours before meetings. Members said staff would circulate an introductory email with committee rosters and attachments for new members.
