Committee hears two appointments to the sales tax oversight panel; council votes scheduled for Feb. 26

Two nominees for the sales tax overview committee—Uriah Davis and Jessica (Jess) Reyes—introduced themselves to the Urban and Economic Development Committee on Feb. 12 and answered questions from councilors.

Uriah Davis, a Tulsa native and former city council candidate, said he holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s in geopolitics and wants to represent younger residents on the panel. Davis told the committee he seeks to be a conduit for younger people and civic engagement and that he has been active in neighborhood organizations.

Jessica (Jess) Reyes appeared virtually and described herself as a longtime Oklahoma resident and community advocate who uses social media to engage and inform Hispanic residents in both English and Spanish. Reyes said she would bring representation for a constituency she said has been underrepresented.

Committee members welcomed both nominees and said both will be scheduled for a council vote on Feb. 26. Councilors encouraged Davis and Reyes to appear at the Feb. 26 meeting in person if possible, though staff said virtual attendance may be acceptable.
