Sedgwick County commissioners preview Feb. 19 agenda with zoning case, appointments and service agreements

Sedgwick County commissioners reviewed the agenda for their Wednesday, Feb. 19 meeting and flagged a zoning case, multiple advisory-board appointments and several service agreements and reports, according to the commissioners' agenda review.

The agenda highlights include a proposed zoning change at “50 Third and North Gao” from SF-20 to AGC; multiple appointments to township and advisory boards; an affiliation agreement to allow the provider Independent Forward to serve a person who has come off the county’s waiting list for developmental disability services; the annual noxious-weeds progress report required by state statute; and the annual delegation of signature authority for Older Americans Act paperwork between the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) and the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS). Two executive sessions were also noted on the agenda.

Emergency management and risk management staff were listed as presenters. Julie Simpson of emergency management was scheduled to discuss severe weather safety classes, and Elizabeth Wingo of risk management was scheduled to present a safety-promotion poster, the agenda review said. The agenda also called for reminders about voter sticker distribution and a video honoring Black History Month, and it noted county offices would be closed on Presidents’ Day while emergency services remain available via 911.

On appointments, the agenda includes a township trustee nomination and appointments to the Council on Aging and Physical Disabilities and the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) advisory boards; several advisory-board recommendations were tied to individual commissioners. The agenda further listed an annual report by Mark Clark on valuation and real property in Sedgwick County and routine bid-board and consent items.

Consent item O was described in the agenda as an agreement for pole replacements near K‑15 and 70 First; the agenda said the county would perform maintenance on two items and that there would be no upfront fiscal cost to the county. The county attorney or sheriff’s office was noted as pulling a separate item (item L) to bring it back at a later meeting.

Commissioners also discussed an annexation item described as pending and noted that staff had circulated emails and communications about that item. The developmental-disability affiliation with Independent Forward was described in the agenda as a necessary step so the provider can be paid for services to a recently served person in the community.

The agenda review closed with the chair confirming the schedule and noting the two planned executive sessions. No formal votes or final decisions on these items were recorded in the agenda review portion of the transcript; the items were presented for consideration at the upcoming public session.
