Grand Prairie City Council members discussed results from the city’s partnership with Texas Monthly, which produced ticketed events including Taco Fest and a planned Barbecue Fest, and asked staff for detailed performance metrics and resident participation data.
Claudia, identified as the city’s marketing communications director, told the council that digital impressions and other benchmarks have been met or exceeded and that staff will return to the council in July with a full presentation on campaign numbers. When asked who benefited from ticket sales, staff said "All the profits go to the Zavala Family Foundation that's based here in Grand Prairie," a relationship Texas Monthly established with a local beneficiary for the events.
Council members inquired about resident participation and the effectiveness of a resident coupon program. Claudia said the city had requested ticket-scan data from the event operator but that detailed scans and coupon-redemption percentages were "not at this time" available; staff committed to returning with those figures.
On counts and attendance, one staff speaker reported, "1,406 is what the number that they gave us this morning," citing the ticket total provided to the city; other comments in the meeting suggested earlier estimates of 1,500–1,600 but staff attributed the city’s data to the operator’s report. City staff said the Barbecue Fest will be another ticketed, third-party event scheduled for late September.
Separately, staff described two separate marketing contracts the city is moving forward to secure. The city said the contracts do not include traditional television audience buys and that the selected agencies are based in the Dallas–Fort Worth region rather than Grand Prairie specifically. A council member characterized the combined spend as "nearly a million dollars a year"; staff said they would provide more detailed budget breakdowns and benchmark comparisons when they return to the council.
The council also heard a tourism and marketing announcement: Sarah (city staff) said Chet Garner’s television series Daytripper will film in Grand Prairie this week, with producers hoping the episode will be the season opener and air in October; staff said they plan a watch-party experience tied to the broadcast.
No formal vote was recorded on the marketing contracts at this meeting. Council members asked for clearer post-event reporting on resident participation, coupon redemption rates and campaign benchmarks; staff committed to providing a detailed review in a July follow-up.
