The Wauwatosa Government Affairs Committee unanimously recommended an ordinance amendment to modify the composition of the Historic Preservation Commission to include the executive director of the Wauwatosa Historical Society or that director's designee as a standing member.
Under the draft code change, commission membership would temporarily increase to eight members and revert to seven after an existing member's term expires. The amendment was introduced by Mayor McBride at a prior Government Affairs Committee meeting and received a 5‑0 recommendation from the Planning Commission at its December review. A public hearing before the Common Council on January 28 drew no speakers on the topic.
Staff told the committee the change is intended to formalize a standing link between the city commission and the Historical Society. The committee voted unanimously to forward the amendment to the full Common Council for final consideration.
Next steps: Pending the committee recommendation, staff said the item will be scheduled for a final vote by the Common Council on the 20‑fifth (date in staff materials).
