Council rezones Chapman Drive site for Waukesha Water Utility operations center

The Waukesha City Council unanimously approved a rezoning to allow the Waukesha Water Utility to relocate its operations center to a vacant site on Chapman Drive.
Robin (city planner) said the property, identified by tax key WAKC 1,333,008, is currently zoned M3 (Limited Business/Industrial Park) and that the plan commission recommended approval of rezoning the parcel from M3 to I1 (Institutional) to accommodate the utility headquarters. The site is adjacent to existing city facilities including the clean water plant, the city drop-off center and the city garage.
A site-plan, architectural review and building permits will still be required before construction; Robin noted those reviews will go to the plan commission and building-permit process. A rendering shown to the council indicated office space and vehicle parking for the utility. The rezoning motion was moved by Alderman Bertels, seconded, and passed unanimously.
Council discussion did not identify public comments opposed to the rezoning at the public hearing. The vote changes the parcel’s zoning designation; detailed engineering, site-plan and building-permit approvals remain outstanding.
