Lemont swears in Robert Keane as police sergeant

Robert (Rob) Keane took the oath of office and was sworn in as a police sergeant for the Village of Lemont during the Feb. 24 village board meeting.
Keane—s family attended the ceremony; the mayor asked those present to stand for the oath before administering it. The chief described Keane as an experienced officer who has served 12 years with the department and as a school resource officer for seven years. "Rob's been on for 12 years, and he was a school resource officer for seven years," the chief said.
At the podium, the mayor congratulated Keane and praised the police department's staffing and fiscal progress, saying the village had "really turned around" police-pension funding and general-fund health, allowing the department to hire officers. The mayor also noted that the village was recently ranked 16th in the state for safety, attributing that standing to the department's work.
The ceremony concluded with the formal oath and a round of congratulations from the board. No formal vote was required to administer the oath; the promotion was made official during the public meeting.
Following the ceremony the board continued with other business and later moved into executive session to discuss the purchase or lease of real property.
