Woburn special education parent advisory group resumes activity, seeks volunteers

Adam Chapman, a parent volunteer and former treasurer of the Woburn Special Education Parent Advisory Council (CPAC), told the school committee on Wednesday that CPAC has resumed activity after a recent pause and is forming a subcommittee focused on community engagement and rebuilding membership.
Chapman said CPAC is a parent volunteer group that advises on services for students with disabilities, and he noted the council paused earlier this year before reactivating at the request of local members. Per CPAC bylaws, Chapman said he was appointed to head a new subcommittee on community engagement and rebuilding; he asked the school committee to help publicize volunteer recruitment as CPAC looks to form a new executive board in the winter.
Chapman said CPAC’s short‑term goal is to reconnect with school leaders and rebuild its volunteer base. He described past activities—PTO visits, resource emails to principals and rights seminars—and mentioned a recent successful resource fair at the high school. He invited Woburn parents who wish to volunteer to contact CPAC at the email he provided during the presentation and said the council maintains a website with resources.
Committee members offered several suggestions for outreach and partnership, including coordination with related parent groups and local nonprofits. The committee and Chapman agreed CPAC will provide updates as recruitment progresses; no committee action was requested or taken.
