National City arts committee reviews senior FAB program, public-art projects and upcoming youth events

Zaida Corvado, community services staff and presenter, told the National City Public Arts Advisory Committee about the city’s FAB (50 and Better) program and recent public-art and community partnership activity.
Corvado described FAB programming for older adults that currently mixes “morning socials,” art classes and fiber-arts activities. Morning socials run three days a week for about two hours and include simple creative activities such as coloring and paper-airplane competitions; separate art-class sessions use mediums from air-dry clay to canvas painting. “Some people, this was the only gift that they were gonna receive,” Corvado said of a recent winter donation that paired participant-made scarves with homebound meal recipients, adding that the donations produced visible emotion among recipients.
