Monroe names winners in inaugural "Deck the House" holiday lights contest

Monroe officials presented awards Tuesday night to winners of the city27s inaugural Deck the House holiday light competition, a community program the administration said drew 19 entries and broad resident participation.
City Manager David Robinson credited the communications team for expanding the downtown holiday-lights program into a neighborhood contest. Director Jody Egan said the city used social media, a GIS story map and a QR-code voting system to collect votes; she reported a total of 33,875 votes cast during the Dec. 1626ndash;29 public voting period using a 10-votes-per-IP-address limit.
Egan described the program as an effort to recognize residents and drive community participation. "This year, We had 19 participants...In total, we had 33,875 votes that were cast, using our 10 votes per IP address matrix, metric that we, established," she said.
Officials announced third-place winner Ralph Gapis, who received a certificate and a $75 Lowe27s gift card; second-place winner Tammy Pierce was not present and the city said staff will contact her to deliver a certificate and gift card. First place and the inaugural Griswold award went to Bill Letarte, who received a $300 Lowe27s gift card and will be invited to help flip the switch at the city27s tree-lighting event on Nov. 21, 2025.
Winners came forward to accept certificates and posed for photographs with Mayor Robert E. Clark and city staff. Egan said the city plans to continue and expand the program next year.
The awards segment was a presentation item; no council votes or budget appropriations were taken during the announcement.
