Alleghany County to prepare resolution to donate three state‑acquired campers to other North Carolina counties

County staff told the Board of Commissioners on Jan. 7 that Alleghany County owns four campers acquired with state funds after a previous earthquake and that staff recommends donating three of them to other North Carolina counties affected by recent storms.
Staff said their due diligence indicated two recommended constraints: keep donations in-state (North Carolina) rather than sending the units out of state, and avoid renting the trailers. Staff proposed retaining one camper for county emergency-management command-center use and donating the remaining three to counties with the greatest current need. April Ham, county staff, said the campers “came from the Office of State Budget Management. They were paid for with state funds for earthquake recovery.”
Staff told commissioners they plan to prepare a resolution for action at the next meeting and will identify potential recipient counties based on need. Commissioners expressed general support and asked staff to move quickly; staff said a draft resolution could be ready for the next meeting.
