Platte County approves Rapid Financial contract to speed juror and court payments

Platte County commissioners voted 3-0 on Oct. 6 to approve an agreement between the treasurer's office and Rapid Financial Solutions to issue prepaid cards, checks or digital funds for juror payments and certain court refunds.
Platte County Treasurer Christopher Kendall told commissioners the county currently issues $11 checks to jurors, many of which go uncashed; studies he cited put the average cost of issuing a paper check at more than $6. The Rapid Financial solution, Kendall said, charges $0.73 per card, and the vendor would handle customer service, loading and the back-end processing. The treasurer said the county would record the transactions as journal entries and that the vendor's service will save staff time as well as direct costs.
Kendall said the county must track unclaimed amounts for a period and that the new process will simplify that accounting. Commissioners expressed support for updating the treasurer's office technology and noted the potential savings. The motion to approve (agenda item 2025CO137) passed on a roll call, 3-0.
